MEDIA PARTNER: Radiant Circus

23:00 until very late

£10.00 / £9.00 via Rio Cinema

SUPAKINO and THE CELLULOID SORCERESS shine a spotlight on the late singer, actor, model VANITY with an action-packed 80s double bill of Motown musical BERRY GORDY’S THE LAST DRAGON (1985) and the UK theatrical premiere of NEVER TOO YOUNG TO DIE (1986).

Celebrating VANITY’s varied career from Prince-protégée to action movie star to evangelist, there will be clips, trailers and discussion between the films… plus some surprises!

An exciting and funky spectacle in the tradition of cult late-night movies, we invite you to put on your shoulder pads, bring a date and groove on over to the historic Rio Cinema.

BERRY GORDY’S THE LAST DRAGON (1985) and NEVER TOO YOUNG TO DIE (1986):

Motown mogul Berry Gordy’s kung-fu musical is the ultimate 80s Hollywood excess: a blend of chart hits, young stars, magic powers and the shadow of the great Bruce Lee! THE LAST DRAGON was a smash on release and enjoyed a 30th anniversary revival tour in the US.

After dropping out of PURPLE RAIN to join Motown, VANITY went on to star in several low-budget and direct-to-video action films. Unreleased theatrically in the UK, NEVER TOO YOUNG TO DIE remains a cult classic of the VHS-era for its “James Bond Jr” premise and GENE SIMMONS of the rock band KISS as the outlandish hermaphrodite villain!

Both features will be showing in digital format and will be screened uncut for the first time in the UK.
